Security & Defence Interests in Space Conference brings together decision-makers, operators, innovators, and industry leaders to address one of the fastest-evolving domains of security and defence.
Why You Should Attend
Over the past decade, space has transformed from a supporting environment into a critical operational domain that fundamentally influences the conduct of modern security and military operations. The official recognition of space as a NATO operational domain in 2019 confirmed its central role in command and control (C2), intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), navigation, precision weapon guidance, and strategic decision-making.
The conference creates a platform for dialogue between the armed forces, the security community, industry, academia, and public administration. It reflects both NATO’s alliance-wide approach and the European dimension of EU-led initiatives –including critical infrastructure protection, crisis management, and civil resilience.
Attendance Delivers
- Strategic relevance – engagement with the policy and operational dimensions of the space domain
- Unified security and military perspective – military operators, security professionals, and policy-makers under one roof
- Direct stakeholder access – relationships built with the people and organisations that matter
- Industry as a capability enabler – exploration of how technology is driving operational change
- Purposeful networking – structured opportunities to connect across sectors
Conference Programme
Block 1 – Space as a Domain of Modern Warfare
This block examines the military use of space as an integral part of multi-domain operations (MDO). Discussion will focus on how space systems are directly linked to combat operations on land, at sea, in the air, and in cyberspace.
Main Topics:
- Space as an operational domain and its role in MDO
- Satellite communications, navigation, and ISR as the foundation of combat capability
- Resilience of space systems against jamming, spoofing, cyber, and ASAT threats
- Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and orbital space defence
Block 2 – Space in the Context of Security, Resilience, and Hybrid Threats
The second block addresses the security and hybrid dimensions of space use –dimensions that extend well beyond purely military operations and have a direct impact on the functioning of the state, the economy, and society.
Main Topics:
- GNSS protection (Galileo, GPS) and critical infrastructure dependence on space
- Earth Observation (EO) for internal security, crisis management, and border protection
- Hybrid and cyber threats to space and ground segments
- Space blackout scenarios and crisis preparedness
- Civil–military and international cooperation in the field of space security
Call for Papers
The organisers invite papers, presentations, and panel proposals that address current challenges, emerging trends, and future capability development related to the defence and security use of space.
Submissions may be operational, technical, or policy-oriented, and should demonstrate clear relevance to defence, security, and resilience stakeholders.
Role of Industry and Innovation
Submissions are strongly encouraged to highlight the role of industry as a capability enabler, including:
- Technological innovation and rapid capability delivery
- Public–private partnerships
- Dual-use technology development
- Support to national, NATO, and EU space ambitions
